The companion regulation to UN R155: a vehicle type is approved only if the manufacturer runs a certified Software Update Management System, records which software version is on which vehicle, and can show that over-the-air updates are delivered safely and do not invalidate an existing approval. Binding wherever UN R155 is, and mandatory for all new EU vehicles under Regulation (EU) 2019/2144.
