India's first standalone data protection statute, built around consent notices, a duty to report every personal data breach, and a Data Protection Board with the power to fine. Most of its operative detail lives in the Digital Personal Data Protection Rules, 2025, notified in November 2025 together with a notification setting the Act's enforcement timeline, so what a company must actually do changes when those rules and notifications change.
